MELVYN D. SILVER received a B.S. (Engineering) in 1959 and M.S. (Engineering) in 1962 from New York University. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Law in 1970. Admitted to the California and Federal Bar, he commenced his career as Patent Counsel for IBM in San Jose, California and, in 1973, entered private practice in the field of labor law and insurance law. An experienced plaintiff’s trial and labor attorney, Mr. Silver has practiced before the Superior Court and District Court, the California Court of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1988, Mr. Silver was appointed to the Labor Arbitration panels of the American Arbitration Association, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the State of California Public Employees Relations Board and the Los Angeles County Employee Relations Board. He was past Chair of the Santa Clara County Personnel Board, and, in 1993, served as Chair of the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association. He has litigated ERISA claims in Federal and State Court since the mid-1980's. Mr. Silver is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of California and a member of the ERISA Subcommittee of the National Employment Lawyers Association.
RUTH SILVER TAUBE graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Michigan with a B.A. degree, with high distinction, received her M.A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and received her J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from Santa Clara University School of Law. Upon graduating from law school, she served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Ronald M. Whyte of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose. She is a partner in the law firm of Silver & Taube specializing in ERISA and in mediation of employment disputes. Ms. Silver Taube has practiced before the Superior Court and District Court and the California Courts of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has worked as a Federal Mediator at the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, served as a mediator on the panel of the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, and mediated over 500 employment and ERISA cases. She has lectured on ERISA, mediation, and employment law at Santa Clara University School of Law, Stanford University Law School, Hastings College of Law, the National Bar Association, the Santa Clara County Bar Association, and the San Francisco County Bar Association, and she is an Adjunct Professor at University of San Francisco School of Law and Santa Clara University School of Law. Ms. Silver Taube has litigated ERISA cases in Federal and State court. She has served as a Board member of the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of California, the California Employment Lawyers Association and the ERISA Subcommittee of the National Employment Lawyers Association.
